ICAA Book Club

This year, we’ll be focusing on reading banned books. Why Banned Books at Community Action you might ask? I thought I’d let our Community Action Code of Ethics be the guiding light to that question: As Community Action Professionals, we dedicate ourselves to eliminating poverty in the midst of plenty in this nation by opening to everyone the opportunity for education and training, the opportunity for work; and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity; and with respect for cultural diversity.
Given that so many of those whom we serve are marginalized, lifting voices that are being marginalized through censorship would be yet another way to walk our talk. We’ll get started with The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.
